The Regimental Journal of The Light Dragoons
2023 has seen a lot of big changes, one of the biggest being Sgt “Peech” Mallen, hanging up his civilian clothing after four years of service to the Welfare Department. He is now back in combats as he takes over as MT Troop Sergeant. We wish him luck and thank him for all he has done. We also thank WO1 Louis Iddon who leaves the army in June 2024 for civilian street. He has had an impeccable two years in welfare, leaving behind his legacy of the Welfare House, which he set up with Sgt Mallen in 2023. Good look for the future.
Sgt Jonny Allen took over from Sgt Mallen in October 2023 and was straight into building deployment packs for all the families deploying. WO1 Iddon also delivered the families brief over Microsoft Teams which saw a record number of participants.
2023 once again proved popular for the Flamingo Land passes which will be renewed in 2024. We will also be adding Beamish Open Air Museum passes back to the list due to popular demand, as well as looking into purchasing passes for Alton Towers.
The Welfare team had a nice road trip to Bovington and back to collect some Little Troopers separation Christmas smiles boxes to hand out to the families, this was all down to the hard work of our clerk
Maria Cooper securing them our thanks to Little Troopers for supplying them, a great charity.
We saw 2023 out in style with the Welfare Christmas party which was a huge success, with Mr Twister entertaining the children accompanied by McDonalds and Dominos
Mr Twister and some of his many balloon arrangements.
to feast on and not forgetting a visit from the big man himself Santa Clause.
2024 has lots to look forward to with the Regiment returning from deployment and a family’s day in June we will continue to support the families and provide them with as much as we can.
