The Regimental Journal of The King’s Royal Hussars 103
One of Alisdair’s most valued traits was his trusting nature in others. Unfortunately, this level of trust should never have been applied to one Cpl Fletcher. Having sold his car for scrap, it came as some shock after the police contacted a deployed Lt Tew to inform him of his car’s involvement in criminal activ- ity in some of Glasgow’s more salubrious boroughs. In a hush money case to rival that of the 45th President of the United States’, both the victim, Alisdair, and the ‘middleman’, Cpl Fletcher, were posted out of Regiment. Nefarious activity not- withstanding, they were sent to deliver Value and Standards training to the Army’s impressionable new recruits at Pirbright.
It seems that crime does in fact pay, as then newly promoted Capt Tew returned to Regimental Duty to take up the post of Second in Command B Squadron. Ostensibly, deficient of exposure in a NATO construct due to his early departure from CABRIT, Alisdair was posted to the picturesque town of Cirencester to lie low as XO DCOS Ops ARRC. He then posted into 3(UK)XX as SO3 G3 covering Operations and Deployments. This turned out to be Alisdair’s last job in the Army. His particular skill in developing junior soldiers and the time and care he gave to this aspect of the job ultimately led him to begin to pursue a career in teaching. Alisdair leaves the Army to undertake a PG Cert in Edinburgh with the intention of teaching overseas with his partner, Fran. Alisdair will be much missed, the teaching profession’s gain is truly our loss.

Major Scott Pryor
Maj Scott Pryor commissioned into the King’s Royal Hussars in December 2013, and whilst he was the only officer to join the Regiment from his RMAS intake he was shocked to learn he would not be the only Total Wipeout champion of champions in the mess. Following a Winter season in the Bovvy Hilton, Maj Pryor was given a stark choice on arrival at Regimental Duty: a summer of orderly officer or join the Regiment in Canada for a BATUS of ambulance commanding. He, wisely, chose the latter. On return he was deemed suitably youthful and handsome, and joined C Squadron (11H) as 1st Troop Leader upgrading his CVR(T) for a Challenger. With C Squadron Maj
Pryor would deploy to Poland on Ex BLACK EAGLE, march on the Tercentenary Parade and Rugby Tour to Cardiff.
2015 saw Maj Pryor join the Army team for Skeleton, and his passion for sliding downhill would only get more expensive over the successive years as he became a regular on the Cresta run from 2016. Maj Pryor’s portrait hangs in the company of Regimental greats, such as David Silverman, in the Mess loo for winning the 17/21st Lancers Cup at Cresta in 2019. He became the Army Secretary for Cresta in 2020. Maj Pryor has also represented the Regiment at Polo, and in 2016 was part of the team which won the HAC 105 invitational and Captains and Subalterns, for which he is also commemorated in the Mess loo... However, Maj Pryor’s Mess legacy is most fre- quently remembered as the silvers member who procured the most vital of dining tools: grape scissors.
Following a second BATUS, this time as C Squadron Second- in-Command, in 2018 Maj Pryor posted to Newcastle to relive his student days and fulfil the post of Adjutant the Queen’s Own Yeomanry. This post was cut short as Maj Pryor began the Army Pilots’ Course at RAF Cranwell that August. He was briefly the Intelligence Officer at 3 AAC before in 2020 starting flying helicopter at RAF Shawbury and was awarded his wings in December 2021. A brief hiatus from flying at the front end of 2022 saw Maj Pryor employed in Main Building, working as part of the Defence Intelligence team when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. After the initial stages of the war, Maj Pryor departed MOD for Alabama to spend the Summer flying Apache as part of his conversion to type training which finished in 2023 and saw him move to Middle Wallop to begin conversion to role training. Maj Pryor was promoted to Field Grade in Summer 2023.
Looking forward, Maj Pryor will complete flying training and move to Wattisham in June 2024, and despite his best efforts to remain in the crimson trouser band, this means he has had to transfer to the AAC. Maj Pryor marries his wonderful fiancée, Emily, in the Summer – we only hope he avoids yet another shoe disaster at his own wedding. A splendid personality, Maj Pryor will be missed by the Regiment, although thankfully not the Army.
