It was on this exercise that the Sqn bid farewell to its leader, Maj Joe Williamson who handed over the reins to Maj Harry Bartles, returning to B Sqn for the third time in his career.
The immediate effort was the recovery from IRON CYCLONE and a much-needed break for summer leave. When the Sqn paraded in early September it did so with a new mission and a new focus: to Make B Sqn Great Again.
Courses, AT and sport were the order of the day with person- nel taking part in various AT packages throughout the term, and Lts Campbell and Palmer leading the Regimental Nordic and Alpine skiing expeditions respectively, stacked full of B Sqn personnel. B Sqn personnel took full advantage of the sporting packages which were on offer. There was a signifi- cant B Sqn representation in the Regimental football team, Cpl Andrews, Cpl Robson-Cross, LCpl Ellmer and Tpr Pompey included in the tour to Cyprus; Cpl Hanser representing the RAC at rugby on the ladies team, with Sgt Cook, LCpls Stevens
and Toroca and Tprs Valetini, Vugakoto and McNeish in the mens team. LCpl Mohammadi and Tpr Valetini were B Sqn’s boxing team for the Regimental effort, while Tpr Hutton led the Sqn’s efforts in the bar.
Amongst all this, the Sqn managed to conduct some tactical training, again on a wet and cold SPTA. Troop Tests in October tested the full range of mounted and dismounted skills with each troop putting in a sterling effort. However, there could only be one winner and 1st Troop took the B Sqn Battle Pennant for the year – no doubt 2nd, 3rd and the newly formed 4th Tp will be keen to take it off them in 2024.
As the Regiment settles down for Christmas leave, the Squadron looks forward to what the new year might bring. Whatever the outcome, it is sure to be just as busy, challenging and entertain- ing as 2023.
