Allotments Co-
operative Limited
Our co-operative has purchased their first plot of land from a private landowner. This is a great achievement for our small organisation of 40 plus members. It was highlighted in our Vision and Strategy document that, although we leased and rented land on the allotment gardens known as Blackways Meadows, our weakness was that we did not own any land as an organisation. We have purchased the land through our own finances but we have also secured funding through the Tesco Bags of Help scheme to pay for the development of the allotment plots. The intention is to provide an additional two plots for cultivation for members. We also intend to make part of the land a community garden for the local residents within the area.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award, and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant. Voting is open in all Tesco stores throughout May and June. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at
