103 Regiment Royal Artillery
Honorary Colonel Preface
Brigadier Bill Kingdon
The spirit and achievements of 103 Regiment Royal Artillery shine through clearly in this journal. It has been a year that has presented many unexpected and unwelcome challenges, yet it has also been a period during which qualities of adaptability, service and teamwork have shone through. I know that every one of you who is associated with the Regiment will look back with pride on your collective achievements and activi- ties. I certainly do.
In these pages you will read about the superb indi- vidual and collective training that has been achieved, despite the pandemic. And an array of honours and recognition earned by all ranks. You will see sporting achievements, civic events and initiatives to extend the reach of the Artillery Reserves in St Helens, Nottingham and with the next generation of soldiers through the Army cadets. The Regiment is leading the way in devel- oping potential future leaders in Gourley Troop, and the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers’ Band goes from strength to strength as the Royal Regiment’s sole band. This journal describes an impressive period by any measure.
I heard remarked recently that ‘the pace of change has never been this fast, and it will never be so slow again.’ We probably all recognise that this is as true for Defence, the Reserves and the Royal Artillery as it is for much of the rest of our lives. I am confident in the future because I see in 103 Regiment that adaptability and cheerful professionalism to embrace betterment and evolution, while remaining true to the traditions of service, community and teamwork on which our collec- tive history is built.
Look back with pride on everything that you have achieved this year. My best wishes and thanks for all that you continue to do in 2021 and beyond.
