Clay Target Shooting Team By Capt Harry Smedley
Over the last couple of years the ROSO, Capt Harry Smedley, has been devel- oping , training and competing with the fledgeling 103RA Clay Target Shooting Team. The recently formed team regularly enters a number of the Army Clay Target Shooting Club league events held around the counties and competed in the Army Clay Target Shooting Championships in 2018 and 2019.
The Team is always on the lookout for new members, those with experience, but especially those who have never tried
the sport but would like to take part and learn from scratch. We would especially welcome female members as they are underrepresented in the sport in general. Training will be given, and members of the team can obtain civilian qualifications including;
• Shotgun Skills Course.
• Clay Range Safety Officers Course.
• Instructor Courses.
• Coaching Qualifications.
As a recognised Army sport, members will be paid to attend training and compe-
titions when representing the Regiment and the RA teams and will also be given the opportunity to try for the Army and British Olympic teams should they wish.
The ROSO is due to retire from the Reserves shortly and so will be handing over the Team Captaincy to SSgt Mark Talbot at 216 Bty so anyone who is inter- ested in joining the team, or just having a trial shoot please contact him to arrange a shoot.
Table Tennis
By SSgt Culf
I’ve always had a social interest in Table Tennis, and often played whilst on holiday with my sons. I’d also played through the years in the reserves with the older generation as the Bty always had a table. I’m now the older.
I decided to join a local club to improve, and currently play in the 3 division in the Bolton league for Hilton TTC and play and practice as often as possible. I’m always promoting the
I took up my position as FTRS Tech SSgt in the summer of 2015 and soon started having a knock (playing) in my lunch hour. Improving with practice I really started to enjoy playing. In 2018 I attended the Army Table Tennis Championships at Aldershot; this is open to all service personnel regular and reserve. I finished it the top 16, and gained the Credit award, for my enthusiasm and commitment which I was over the moon with.

sport and have obtained tables from Army Table Tennis, which I have loaned out to the Regt so people can be involved in the sport. My aim is to take a team from the Regiment down to the ATTA championships. To do this I will be arranging a training event where reserves from the Regt can attend, improve their skills, and get some official training. Maybe run a Regt singles, doubles and Bty competition.
Table Tennis is good for your health, easy on the body, people of any age can play, you can play anywhere, anytime, its affordable, good for the brain, its sociable and fun.
If you are interested in playing table tennis please contact me.
The ATTA committee saw potential in me and
wanted me to join them, not knowing what the role
was I accepted and I’m now the current secretary.
The role is busier than I thought, arranging a
minimum of 3 events a year, including a Tri-Ser-
vice event. I’m currently organising a trip for 15
players to attend the Masters Games in Japan 2021. I have just employed WO2 Jason King (210) as the Treasurer for ATTA.
