VEGANIC
PLOTTING
An increasingly popular method of vegan gardening can now be plotted on a map!
Veganic gardening is becoming more popular and there are increasing numbers of plotholders who practice this method. Animal products are not used in veganic gardening, organic practices are followed, and many veganic gardeners are also no-dig.
Veganics is practiced by amateur gardeners and also in commercial agriculture, where
it is often known as ‘stock free farming’.
In practice, this means, for example, using alternative methods for soil fertility such as green manures, composting and using well- rotted wood chippings. Many veganic gardening methods can be used on allotments where plotholders cannot obtain animal manure, which is becoming increasingly difficult to source in some urban areas.
The number of veganic gardeners is unknown; however, a new interactive global map is helping to plot where veganic gardeners are located. The map has been created by the Vegan Organic Network, where veganic allotment gardeners are encouraged to plot their location on the map. There is an opportunity to connect with other veganic gardeners too, although your details stay private if you wish.

NAS and Ordnance Survey (OS) have joined forces to make allotment data in the UK the best it can possibly be
OS are asking NAS members up and down the country to take part in online crowdsourcing to fill in missing blanks about allotment names in its records. They hope to collect as much information into an interactive map - specifically designed to capture allotment names.
OS is encouraging NAS members to look at their local allotments and help identify any of the following:
• Missing names for unnamed allotments or community
growing spaces
• Missing allotments or community growing spaces
• Suggest any corrections to names incorrectly recorded
• Identify any allotments or community growing spaces
that no longer exist.
