DMIs from the 12 Regt RA, the 19 Regt RA, and the RL, 1 RHA would not have been able to deploy to Ex SCORPION CYCLONE effectively.
The Training Wing has a busy year ahead as they continue to pre- pare A Bty (The Chestnut Troop) for their early 2024 deployment on OP CABRIT 15. This will occur concurrently with E Bty’s transi- tion from the AS90 to the Light Gun L118. Preparing the Regiment to be trained on the Light Gun, as an interim capability until we adopt Archer, will take significant work. However, once in motion, it will put the Regiment in an advantageous position as we anx- iously await Archer’s arrival. The Training Wing must provide C
licence theory and driving training to prepare personnel from E Bty to operate the L118 gun during exercises. Also receiving train- ing are the L118 Level 2 Operator, Detachment Commander, and 2IC. The Training Wing will collaborate with E Battery to ensure a seamless transition to the Light Gun L118. They will provide exten- sive gun operation instruction, including theoretical and practical exercises. This will entail teaching soldiers how to operate the L118 gun system and drive and maneuver the wheeled platform. In addition, the Training Wing will ensure that the Detachment Commander and 2IC receive specialized training to effectively lead and manage the detachment throughout their deployment to Op CABRIT.
Unit Welfare Team 1 RHA Major J Harvard RHA (UWO)
It’s been another busy and varied year for the Welfare team as we continue to provide support to 1 RHA personnel and their families whether it be at home base, whilst conducting trawls
or exercises, or deployed on Operations.
Throughout the year the Welfare team have organised trips to several venues and activities for families with funding provided by the Regiment and the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund.
Each year the unit is allocated a number of tickets to the Garrison Halloween Party for serving families’ children. October ’22 was no exception, and the turnout was superb. It never ceases to amaze me the imagination of parents and kids alike when it comes to the designing of Halloween outfits and how they become more gruesome and scarier each year! We look forward to the same kind of event this year on the 26th of October.
December saw us laying on a coach for families from the regi- ment to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. There was a good take up and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to not only have a great day experiencing all the attractions in the Wonderland but also get in some last-minute Christmas shopping on Oxford Street (including seeing the Christmas lights) without having the hassle of travel and parking in London. We’ll be doing the same again
