Ex CALEDONIAN CADET was a brilliant week of summer hill walking in Knoydart, near Fort William. This part of Scotland was so
remote that we walked for days and saw barely any other people. The scenery was absolutely stunning and we had a unique opportunity to experience the surroundings by staying in both- ies and tents along the way.
It was also a great opportunity to take in what Scotland has to offer

herds of deer. Operating in such a remote place presented a good opportunity to practice macro and micro navigation, as well as military skills and drills such as new methods of casualty evacua- tion, route selection, key decision-making and using ground sign to aid situational awareness.
We also learnt more advanced weather forecast- ing and utilised this in route planning. The week was challenging but we all came out of it with a profound sense of achievement, improved navi- gational con dence and the Summer Mountain Foundation quali cation.
