     Perspective
from Brazil
Gustavo Cabral Thomé Commander – Brazilian Navy
Brazil’s perspective on the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC)
is one filled with recognition of its importance and the need to maintain this invaluable exchange program. Over the course of the 46 weeks, I have personally experienced tremendous growth and development, acquiring
a mind that is open, inquisitive, and confident when analyzing information. The ACSC has equipped me with the necessary skills to effectively apply professional knowledge, while also fostering original thinking.
The significance of ACSC extends
far beyond personal growth. It plays
a crucial role in preparing course members for the next stage of our careers within the military context.
The program goes beyond the mere acquisition of knowledge; it nurtures
a capacity to make timely, logical, and sound decisions that are mindful of moral, ethical, and legal considerations. This is of utmost importance in a demanding and complex environment.
Moreover, ACSC offers a unique opportunity to forge friendships and networks not only within the UK Services but also with numerous international partner nations. These connections will undoubtedly support each one of us throughout our careers and beyond. The relationships built during this program are invaluable, and I
am grateful for the friendships that have been established.
Looking ahead, I eagerly anticipate working with my new and eternal Cormorant friends in the near future. The bonds formed during the ACSC are enduring, and I am confident that these relationships will transcend geographical boundaries and continue to strengthen over time. The collective knowledge, experiences, and perspectives shared among the participants create a powerful network that will undoubtedly contribute to future collaborations and endeavors.
In conclusion, ACSC has been an exceptional experience that has shaped my professional growth and provided me with the necessary tools to excel
in a military context. The program’s emphasis on critical thinking, ethical considerations, and international collaboration ensures that its value extends beyond individual development. I am proud to have been a part of this program and eagerly look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead, working together with my Cormorant friends from around the world.
