C Company’s primary task for the year was to train for and then take over responsibility for the Op ELGIN Intermediate Response Company from 1 Royal Anglian on R2 (5 days’ notice to move). The Coy completed a busy period of training from September to December 2016, reinforced by A and S Coy, in order to be ready to assume the role in early December. The Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) included Public Order and driver training; a number of live ring packages culminating in a live Company Attack and Public Order CT1 and CT2 assessment exercises.
Besides training for Op ELGIN, the Company was also tasked with establishing and conducting LFTT ranges in support of A Company’s Op ELGIN LFTT package. The Company deployed twice to Kazakhstan as part of the Battalion’s Defence Engagement on Exercise STEPPE EAGLE 17. The CSM conducted an excellent JNCO leadership event taking the Company’s junior leaders to London and the Defence Capability Centre. The Company maintained a platoon in Cornwall in support of Exercise ACER for 8 weeks, which seemed to be focused more on sur ng and Coasteering whilst maintaining the security of the 2* deployable HQ. So it has not all been hard work!
There have also been some considerable sporting achievements. A number of the Company deployed to the Alps as part of the Battalion Alpine and Nordic skiing teams with Rfn Young again selected to train with the Army Nordic Skiing Team. Lt Fisher completed the London Marathon as part of the Army team achieving 1st position within the team whilst Cpl Bodley contributed signi cantly to the success of the Battalion road cycling team. Cpl Haywood has established a successful boxing club within the Battalion which resulted in an excellent inter- company boxing competition. Lt Burns deployed to Canada where he spent just over 2 months working with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Maj Rich Cave,
