chairman’scomments
Dear fellow members...
I have several important items to mention in this issue, which makes a nice change from rambling on.
You should all be aware by now that this year’s Annual General Meeting, which is only weeks away, is to be held at the Hilton
Bath City Hotel on Saturday 10th June; this is quite a change geographically from last years event which was held in York. Unlike last year there will be no Motions to be heard and this is the time that we elect our President to serve for the next three years. There are full details of this procedure within this issue. There were two nominees for the position and if I had to place for one of them it would have put me in a very dif cult position. The two nominees were Andy Percival from the North West and Phil Gomersall from Yorkshire, both well-known and both eminently capable of lling this position. When Andy became aware of who his fellow contender was he immediately stood down, with the agreement of his nominators, an act for which
I would like to offer him my unreserved thanks. It has not only saved me from having to make a very dif cult decision, it has also saved the NAS a great deal of work and expense by avoiding the necessity of holding an election. Of course it has deprived the membership of the chance to make their own selection but Yorkshire versus Lancashire aside I feel that Andy’s decision was a good and unsel sh one.
My nal comments concern the latest addition to our Head Of ce staff. In mid- March Mrs Sonia Gallagher joined us as our Facilities
Of ce Manager, a position that has been vacant for several years. With her strong background in HR and administration I’m sure she will be a great addition to the team. Some of you may have already spoken to or met Sonia and those of you attending the Annual General Meeting may well do so there.
Enough of the administrative stuff, what about the garden? Unfortunately I am limping around on a pair of crutches after a fall one frosty morning whilst leaving our site hut and breaking my ankle; only a few more weeks and the plaster comes off! In the meantime
I am managing to get into my greenhouse and get some seeds started. I’m limiting myself to tomatoes, peppers, cauli owers, cabbage, leeks and onions as they are crops that I can keep going
in pots for several weeks or that will take weeks before they need to go out. One consolation is that the gardens here are far too wet to do anything useful on the plot so I am ok for a few weeks until potato planting time.
Having regaled you with my personal woes I would now like to wish you all a good, warm and productive season, which by the time you read this will be well on its way.
My best regards to you all and I look forward to meeting many of you at Bath.
