MYHarvest Report
Standing in as a representative for the NAS, I attended at Shef eld University a workshop on ‘optimising urban green spaces for local food and biofuel production’.
Introductory talks were given by Dr Jill Edmondson, Miriam Dobson and Roscoe Blevins, covering all aspects of the forthcoming launch of the MyHarvest project.
In addition, a very interesting talk was given by Prof Duncan Cameron on the running of the ‘Plant Production and Protection (P3)’ Centre at the University. There was then a discussion on identifying research goals and establishing working partnerships. After lunch we were briefed on the planned impact of the research
and the user tools it aims to provide. Further discussion then took place on maximising the impact of the research on future policy, best practice and resource requirements for green space utilisation.
It was an extremely interesting day designed primarily to ensure the ve year project covered all the aspects it set out to achieve and also to ensure it achieved the results in the most effective way.
I feel the results of this project will be immensely bene cial to the safeguarding and promotion of our allotments.
