 Ex CHIRON COLLABORATE

It’s safe to say that planning Ex CHIRON COLLABORATE was an undertaking in itself.
Ex CHIRON COLLABORATE was the first Regimental level exercise since the inception of 1MWD and included the largest movement
of MWDs since 1MWDs return
from Germany. The exercise was designed to be a fresh take on 1MWDs annual MWD training concentration and validation with the overarching intent of cross- pollination of knowledge, training ideas and evidence of best practice. Throughout, everyone taking part, instructors, and participants, were continuously asked, ‘What does good look like?’ The exercise also offered a vital opportunity to test and adjust some of the assumptions made in the recently released MWD and
Veterinary Handbook.
The exercise lasted three weeks
and was broken down into three phases, each lasting a week. The SHAPING phase, ran out of St George’s Barracks, was built around briefs that baselined understanding of key elements such as JSP 960 and current threats. This also included
a brief on Card C from a LEGAD at 1XX that I would encourage all in the RAVC to listen to. It definitely opened a lot of eyes (BLUF: Card C gives us more freedom than
we seem to think)! The week also included two days of delivery of the new Urban ITR delivered by Urban Ops instructors and other support within the Regiment. This enable all 1MWD personnel to have a baseline understanding of Urban Ops prior
to it becoming compulsory training. The final day of the week saw Crowd Control and Weapons Cache trg for the MWD teams and also crucially all JNCOs, SNCOs and Junior Officers were put under the spotlight delivering BG and Bde level briefs.
Week two, the DECISIVE phase, saw the vast majority of 1MWD, including the dogs themselves, move to the Complex Air Ground Environment (CAGE) facility at RAF Honington. The logistical move was
