FARMERS
MARKET
Keeping it local...
When we lost our long-serving fruit and vegetable stall at the beginning of this year, we were delighted when our existing stallholder Carl from Microgreen Grocer came to the rescue. Our market is all about sourcing product as local as possible to Thrapston, and Carl is passionate about that ethos.
He has been growing superfood microgreens
at his premises in town for some time; proving popular for our market shoppers wanting to add some extra flavour and sources of vitamin to salads and recipes. Now he also brings a selection of good quality, locally grown fruit and vegetables which he has sourced from farms in the area. Everything is seasonal, so you know what you are eating is fresh and that it has been grown in local soil, travelled a short distance to your plate and is truly supporting farmers living around us.
This summer season you’ll find Lutton strawberries, blueberries and raspberries alongside courgettes, artichokes, corn on the cob, fennel, squash and much more! Carl also brings a good supply of fresh, free range eggs from Kingsthorpe Farm in Polebrook and of course a range of great tasting, Thrapston- grown microgreens.
Farmers Market donate to new Girl Guides
1st Thrapston Guides was newly launched this year, a welcome addition to the town which has had a Brownie pack for some years. Until now, girls wanting to move up to join the Guides had to travel further afield. Now they can more easily access the exciting activities and adventures, friendship and learning that Girl Guiding offers to 10-14 year olds in Thrapston itself.
Thrapston Farmers Market has donated over £550 to the new group to help get them started! The grant has helped them to buy essential resources like Girl Guide programme packs, outdoor activities and games, stationery and craft materials, as well as neckerchiefs for the girls’ uniforms. The new pack is 12-strong already and welcome new members.
