our regular Fisher’s Green visitors Paul Rayson, Steve Conroy and Godfrey Clark in that order. Local honour was upheld by Nick Jackson and Roger Guess finishing close behind for the home team.
Solos were once again the most popular class in the two Midweek Series. Peter Sturgess took three race wins but was only able to secure second place overall in both series. Jayne Morris, Robin Hodges and Chris Spencer-Chapman each secured memorable single race victories, but it was the Solo sailors Bruce Hattersley in his Phantom and Andy Savell in his Yawl, that collected the silverware.
Malcolm Mackley showed that septuagenarians can still do it in Solos by winning the first race of this year’s Regatta. Simon Dobson and Tim Johnson each won individual races, but

they were all outclassed this year by visitor Michael Gifford who finished the week with only 8 points after winning the remaining three races.
Immediately following the Regatta, this year saw the first of the Sundowner Series, generously sponsored by Tropic Breeze from Modbury. Roger Pope and Jayne Morris chose this series to shine with 2nd & 3rd places overall.
As we go to press, the Autumn Series is still underway and thankfully, the wind has filled in even if it has blown from the wrong direction on occasions. Simon
Dobson looks a sitting duck to take
the series with three wins so far. Simon missed the carnage that was the 6th October as he was OOD, but Graham Cranford-Smith’s race report is worth a read on the Y&Y website. As storm force winds brought trees down locally, Race 6 on 13th October never happened. With two more races to go and another two series to follow before the end of the season, there is still plenty of enjoyment to be had.
