our eyes to reach the final enemy position where, under the safety staff, we lobbed the grenade and neutralised the final enemy. This lead on to pairs, section, and platoon level actions, with machine gun fire overhead and a much more realistic simulation of the assault, suppress, reserve rhythm of battle. We also got to conduct these attacks at night, with the GPMG firing red tracer rounds at the targets as illumination flares lit the sky.
The LFTT completed, we began preparing ourselves for what was to come next. Having
defeated the fictional Zabzimek forces, through Ex Churchill’s Challenge and Templer's Triumph, we were now to turn our attention to the activi- ties of the South Ostremek Separatists, a ter- rorist group with links to organised crime, and our mission was to clear them from the area. Naturally this meant we would have to build our own area to defend before clearing the nearby villages. Thankfully, we had all come armed with shovels and entrenching tools and so, less than an hour after deployment, we found ourselves digging shell scrapes in the rocky clay that was our new home.
