Marston Lane Community Allotments at Bedworth Help Warwickshire’s High Sheriff to reach her Tree Planting Target.
Sophie Hilleary High Sheriff of Warwickshire
As the 689th High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Sophie Hilleary had set out her bold ambition to plant the same number
of trees across the county during the 2023/24 tree planting season.
Marston Lane helped her to plant trees on our site towards this target.
On 20th March, a group of eight volunteers met with Sophie on site and helped her plant 80 trees donated by the WoodlandTrust.This was followed by a cup of tea and biscuits, in true allotment fashion.
Sophie sent us the following message after:“Thank you for a very enjoyable morning with you at the allotments. I can
see what a therapeutic place it is for so many people. I think you mentioned there were only eight plots 40 years ago, now into the 50s. As I left, more people were arriving who will have vegetables to show later
this year. I will tot up my sapling plantings later this week. Expect to be about 200 under my target, but very happy to try and complete it next year.Thank you for your support this year, following my attendances at the Nicolas Chamberlaine Founders Day service at the Almshouses in May and the Armistice Service in November, which were incredible experiences in Bedworth.”
