week, as at least half of the group had niggles or minor injuries from the previous week on Sandhurst Cup. The trek was about 7.9km in total up and back, giving fantastic views over the valley and lake.
The next trek was a strenuous loop
that took us towards the summit of
Mount San Antonio, a mountain that stands out as an iconic snow-topped backdrop to the city of Los Angeles for a large portion of the year. At the time of climbing there was a lot of patchy snow
around the route up, but the instructor deemed us to be below the decisive snow line and so the route was within his remit. This hike took us up along a ridge called ‘devil’s backbone’, guid- ing us to the third of six southern Cali- fornia summits in the 6-Pack of Peaks bundle, which was spectacular.
The next day of walking was spent exploring the area around some local hot springs. This was a truly amazing site, where we were able to escape the baking sun in naturally heated thermal pools
