Point, though we were delighted to be placed as 1st international team. The following morning, with slightly heavy heads, the teams returned to New York to fly to Texas or California to begin a week of (yet more!) hill walking, kindly supported by the Sandhurst Trust. Both locations provided some much needed down time after an exhaust- ing competition as well as some beautiful scen- ery in which to trek. After this we took a variety of paths, with many of us staying on to explore America’s West Coast. Unfortunately, space constraints in this publication render it impossi- ble to disclose details of our time in Las Vegas.

While each of us will have taken something differ- ent from the competition, seeing it as a highlight of our time at Sandhurst is common amongst us all. The development in our skills, fitness and mental strength, as well as the bonds formed within the teams is something that we shall all look back on both fondly and proudly. The final word must go to our directing staff, in particular Capt Waring, CSgt Fleming, QSMI Smith, SSgt Blackburn and SSgt Maré, who sacrificed a vast amount of time and worked so tirelessly to get us all performing to our very best. Their approach to the teams and the competition was something we will all aspire to as we progress to our units.
