 amongst us were starting to grasp the basics. Come the afternoon and we had progressed to linked turns. This was not without difficulty, however, and some phenomenal spills were wit- nessed by all, most notably OCdt Barry colliding with the tunnel leading to the top.

Once we finished on the mountain, we headed down to the Umbrella Bar for some much-needed refresh- ment and back to the accommoda- tion for dinner and bed.
Day 3 (Tuesday)
A quantum leap in standards with the best con- ditions so far for skiing today. The whole group had made some really good progress on the basic skills, leading to us all graduating from the baby slopes onto our first blue, with a few more technical and mountain skills being learnt throughout the day. With bright sunshine and
to earn the nickname “Death Wedge of Certain Death” which sums up the level of effort being put in by all. Over- all, Day 3 was an excellent day, with plenty of time for rest and relaxation in the evening.
Day 4 (Wednesday)
Our first red done! This day got a bit more com- plicated with all members learning how to bal- ance on one ski and turn a full 360 degrees on the move. Again, the weather held out for us well. We also used the T-bar lift for the first time, fortunately with few mistakes all round. The whole group was improving massively with basic skills being continuously refined; improved pos- ture, more fluidity in linked turns and fewer errors in general.
Day 5 (Thursday)
As a group we really made some fantastic pro- gress today with all members getting to grips with a few more skills, including being able to traverse a slope with one foot off the ground and carving their way down with ease. Everyone seemed to now have a good grasp of all the basics, with far fewer spills. We were also still blessed with some fantastic weather, and the slopes them- selves were still free from other skiers. As usual, SSgt Doyle was very patient with all of us and
