The week culminated in two of Gozo’s most famed dive sites, The Blue Hole and The Inland Sea. The Blue Hole is an impressive sink hole, in the rock in which you descend before swim- ming out through a natural sea arch at around six metres; here we turned left along the steep cliff exploring the famous coral garden. The Inland Sea is connected to the open ocean by a crack in the towering cliffs, only three metres wide; passing through the crack you are suddenly hit by the scale of the cliffs as they tower over you, seemingly endless in either direction but for the
small passage. Afterwards, we returned to the Atlantis dive centre, not only to return the equip- ment but to thank Bryan and Stephania for their hospitality.
All those involved had an enjoyable trip, and many plans for future expeditions were dis- cussed; let’s hope they come to light. All partici- pants of Exercise AZURE CADET would like to thank the Sandhurst Trust for their support, and all of the Officer Cadets at Sandhurst.
Exercise CARINTHIAN CADET: Behind the scenes
Ireally, really didn’t want to plan one of these Adventurous Training expeditions. I told myself that I didn’t need the extra stresses that
come with the role of Expedition IC. But when a friend who was planning one needed a Ger- man speaker, way back in the tumultuous midst of Junior Term, I got roped into it... and then he jetted off to the Sandhurst Cup instead, so I was left cradling the abandoned EXERCISE CARIN- THIAN CADET. A full term and a half later, this vague idea was to flourish into a fully-fledged hiking trip in the Southern Austrian region of Carinthia, and Northern Slovenia.

In keeping with the somewhat chaotic begin- nings of the exercise planning, I thought I would put a slightly different spin on this article. Rather than a couple of generic paragraphs detailing how far we walked and how breathtaking the scenery was, I’m going to briefly run you through three of our ‘behind the scenes’ hiccups for the week, so you can see how these Adventurous Training expeditions aren’t all just about posing on precipices and walking in the wilderness.
