now starting to take the lead, there are moments where our ‘out of the box’ thinking needs to tone down, but we’re giving it our all. We thank you for answering the bone questions, repeating yourselves again, fighting our corner, and teach- ing us how to lead. You sacrifice more than we do, and without it we most certainly would not be as strong as we are.
It reads in John 15:13 that ‘There is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for one’s friends’. Of course, this refers to Jesus; the ultimate sacrifice. However, it is easy to find examples within all aspects of the British Army. It can also be demonstrated in many different ways: from encouraging instead of complaining, feeling the
fear and doing it anyway, practising press-ups together in juniors, to re-teaching one another how to breathe whilst on tabs. It is giving up on what Sandhurst has taught us to be most valu- able; time.
So, let’s remember who went before us, learn to trust the person to our left and to our right, let us embody the simple sacrifices, remembering to thank those who are often forgotten.
Lastly, I finish on two quotes. ‘When satellites fall from the sky fix bayonets’ from our Company Sergeant Maj McGowan, and from our Com- pany Commander Maj Wendover: ‘Don’t over think it, everything comes to an end’.
 Alamein Company Charity Ball
On Saturday 20th of April 2017 Alamein Company hosted their Charity Ball. It was a tremendous evening of dinner and danc-
ing, and a great way for the OCdts to show their chosen guests the less ‘green’ side of Sandhurst as well as blowing off a little steam.
The night was in aid of two fantastic charities; Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Army Benevolent Fund. The evening, organised by OCdt James Gale and Chris Haydock, was full of surprises, from ‘Singing Waiters’ to a live Char- ity Auction organised by OCdt Clayton-Hatfield in which items such as an Infantry Sword and Flying Experience where auctioned off to OCdts and guests alike.
OCdt Wood
The evening itself raised over £13,000 for the Charities, with more ‘Silent Auction’ items still to come in, which could raise the total to over £15,000. It was an evening thoroughly enjoyed by all who were present.
The evening was a true OCdt event; however, like the rest of Sandhurst, it couldn’t have been made possible without the support of Capt C Cameron and Maj J Matthews.
The evening was kindly sponsored by The Sand- hurst Trust, who provided invaluable expertise and raffle prizes.
