Family Funeral Directors
  In 2003, Toby and Jane Hunt took over Crowsons from Mr and Mrs Gunn. They already owned their family firm, Toby Hunt Funeral Directors in Earls Barton, and wanted to expand into the Oundle area. In this issue of Oundle Life, Toby tells us about his work.
Tell us more... The business has been in Barnwell since around 1890, we found some old photos of Mr Crowson from that era and found them very interesting. The funeral home has now been at the same site for 130 years.
What’s the best thing about being in the Oundle area? Although not strictly in Oundle we feel very much part of the community with both of our daughters attending the Prince William School, so we are often in and around the Oundle town, both with work and social activities.
Hatty, our youngest daughter, now works part-time in the Coffee Tavern whilst doing her
A-levels, so we are often there. It does feel like home from home.
Any famous people walked through the door? Although they didn’t walk through our door, we were asked to provide our Daimler hearse and limousines for the filming of Kinky Boots in 2005. They were used for the opening scenes of the film.
If you weren’t a Funeral Director, what would you be? I wouldn’t really know as I’ve been involved in funerals all my life. I was probably the first school pupil who chose my work experience at a funeral home back in the mid 80’s, so it is all I really know. I have thought I’d try my hand at building, however I’d struggle to find employment as my children call me a DIY disaster.
Most interesting floral tribute? There have been a few interesting requests from tractors to wellies, but probably a snooker table, using
