Page 4 - RAVC Centenary Parade
P. 4

CHIEF VETERINARY OFFICER’S FOREWORD
This year is the Centenary of the Army Veterinary Corps receiving the Royal prefix, and we are very proud that we can recognise this by exercising our Freedom of Entry to the Borough. We see Melton Mowbray as our home; the Corps has been based here since just after World War II, with the link to the Remount Service going back even further.
Today you will see mounted troops, soldiers and military working dogs from both the Defence Animal Training Regiment here in Melton Mowbray and 1st Military Working Dog Regiment (Royal Army Veterinary Corps) currently based in North Luffenham. The dogs are from the RAVC units, the horses are loaned from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and are more
used to being on parade in London than Melton Mowbray!
We last exercised our Freedom of Entry in 2014, and on that occasion I was on the dais. This time I am very proud to be leading the Corps from the front.
The Parade has only been made possible by the support of Melton Borough Council personnel, the Police and other agencies, and we are grateful for everyone who has worked hard and made possible this important event in the history of the RAVC and Melton Mowbray.
I hope you all enjoy the parade.
