Regiment Regiment (RAVC) 26th March 2010. The continued success and growth of the RAVC today is directly attributed to the sheer professionalism of its personnel on a wide range of military operations. During early 2015 a Reserve Squadron was recognized with over 112 Reservists, the Squadron is fully manned and has a waiting list for personnel to join. RAVC personnel are also attached to the Kings Troop Royal Artillery at Woolwich, The Household Calvary at Knightsbridge, Army Headquarters at Andover, 1 MWD Regt has a small troop in Cyprus, the Regiment also provides Training Teams to support other nations, RAVC instructors are located in several training establishments, as well providing support to the Jungle Warfare Division for the use of Military Working Dogs in a jungle environment.
In recognition of the strong association between the RAVC and Melton Borough
Council, the Mayor and Councillors unanimously approved the granting of the Freedom of the Borough to the RAVC in 1977. The last time the RAVC exercise their Freedom of Melton Mowbray was in 2014.
Today’s parade mark the centenary of the RAVC being awarded the Royal Warrant which was bestowed onto the Corps by King George V following the remarkable success of the Army Veterinary Corps during the Great War when over one million horses were treated by the Corps. It also gives the Corps an opportunity to exercise their Freedom of the Borough granted to the RAVC by the Mayor and Councillors of Melton Mowbray during 1977 - signifying the strong relationship and bond between the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and the town of Melton Mowbray.
