Married five times, including to Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr, Loder’s last film was in 1971. A long and genteel retirement, firstly in a house opposite Harrods and latterly in a nursing home, was livened by his weekly trip by taxi for luncheon at Buck’s, his London club. John Loder, who appeared in 98 films, died in 1988.
