Patrick Lichfield 1959.
Thomas Patrick John Anson was born in 1939 and educated at Harrow. His family home was Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire, and he began taking family photographs at the age of seven. Later, the family home was given to the National Trust in lieu of the crippling death duties following the death of his grandfather, although Patrick retained an apartment in the building. He entered Sandhurst on Intake 23 (Waterloo Company) in 1957 and, whilst at the Academy, became the 5th Earl of Lichfield. Commissioned into the Grenadier Guards, he served for three years before leaving to become a photographers’ assistant, earning £3 a week and sleeping on the floor of the studio.
