However, by 1939, only the most fanatical right-wingers disregarded the threat from Hitler and, upon the outbreak of war, Yeats-Brown re-enlisted in the army. Although too old for front-line service, he was permitted to travel extensively in India and Burma, gathering material for a book detailing the contribution and commitment of the Indian Army. Yeats-Brown died in 1944 – his final work, Martial India: The Story of Two Million Volunteers, was published after his death.
