NAW – get involved!
For the past two decades, The National Allotment Society and their members have used National Allotments Week to engage the public in the world of allotments and publicise the benefit of allotment gardening for communities, individuals, and the planet.
This year, National Allotments Week will run from 7th-13th August with the theme of Soil Health.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
Charles Dowding will be joining the NAS during the week to share his wisdom on how to create healthier soil and better crops and help to choose the winner as we hunt for the ‘Best No Dig Allotment in the UK’!
This year’s National Allotments
Week prize for Best No Dig
Allotment will be sponsored by Chris Knott insurance, who provide Allotment Insurance specifically designed with the needs of allotment associations, clubs and societies in mind.
Our ‘Best No Dig Allotment in the UK’ competition launched on social media on Thursday 7th July and will be running until 13th August. To enter the competition, send pictures of your No Dig allotment and a short description to marketing@nsalg.org.uk, including your location. Full Terms and Conditions can be found on our website.
Join us for a 30-minute live Q&A session on our Instagram channel on Thursday 10th August 2023 at 2pm, where Charles will be there to answer all your burning questions about no-dig allotments. Whether you’re curious about starting your own no-dig garden or want expert tips on maintaining one, Charles is here to help!

Compost master Rod Weston will be running webinars on all things composting. Rod is renowned for his knowledge of how to make and use compost to grow your own food and speaks at events all over the UK. His Carry On Composting website has lots of tips and advice but this will be an opportunity for NAS members to find out first-hand what the secret is to turning unwanted waste into ‘black gold!’
Allotment sites up and down the country will hold open days to show members of the local community what allotmenteering is all about.
The brand new NAS leaflet on Soil Health will be available to pick up for any budding gardener at these open days.
