F/Major Regimental Mascot
2021 has been a challenging year for LCpl Jones, due to the restrictions of Covid 19 that we have all shared. We had to be careful of the events that he attended, as well as sticking to the guidelines that have been put in place to protect and stop the spread of ‘the disease’. The way we achieved this was by allowing the public to approach him, in order to see and take photos, whilst also abiding by the two-meter rule. This could be challenging as the members of the public just love to come and have selfies taken with him!
The year started off slow for LCpl Jones and the Farrier Major due to travel restrictions and cancelled events. But soon as we had the go ahead LCpl Jones was galloping straight back out to Wales, getting himself back out in the public eye.
Once the restrictions had eased off and events started to reopen, it didn’t take long for the requests for LCpl Jones to flood in. Things rapidly picked up pace, seeing LCpl Jones trotting back into action. This year LCpl Jones and
the Farrier Major joined the Regimental Engagement Team (RET) where they attended Colleges, as well as Military Prep Colleges in Wales. Below is a short list of some of the events that LCpl Jones has attended:
• Harrogate Phase One pass off.
• Winchester Phase One pass off.
• Three Counties Show.
• Military Prep Colleges around Wales
and Border Counties.
• Remembrance Parade within Wales.
• Field of Remembrance.
• Festival of Music.
• Ethnic minority Remembrance Parade. • Royal Salute Wales.
• RBL poppy collection within Wales.
• Army in Wales Awards
• Cadet visit within Wales and Border
Counties.
• Dreams and Wishes.
LCpl Jones’ Final appearance for 2021 will be supporting the charity Dreams and Wishes in Wales. There he will visit some of the Welsh hospitals and deliver gifts to the children’s wards. Once we have
finished, LCpl Jones will be heading to Dorset where he will take a well earned break and just generally hoof around and enjoy his Christmas leave. After gaining a few Christmas pounds, LCpl Jones will be ready for 2022 and the usual requests for the Senior Regimental Mascot of The Line to attend various events in Wales and the Border Counties.
