Do you think they’ll notice that I didn’t shave this morning?
Since our arrival at Robertson Barracks the Regiment have maintained an affili- ation with Norwich City Football Club (NCFC). Throughout recent years, members of the Regiment have had the opportunity to attend training sessions and represent the Regiment at several different football matches. This year the Regiment was asked if they would like to attend NCFC’s act of remembrance for the Norwich v Leeds match at Carrow road stadium. We were invited to host the Chelsea Pensioners in Delia Smith’s restaurant before laying a wreath on behalf of the Regiment and for NCFC pitch side. It soon became apparent that Delia’s cooking skills massively outweighed her team’s footballing ability.
After laying the wreath live on Sky Sports, we then moved into the hospi- tality section to watch the game and continue to host the Chelsea pensioners, this is where Cpl Cope realised that
pensioners can still drink!
During our time in the VIP lounge
we got to mingle with players and soon learnt that the father of one of the Chelsea Pensioners had served in
the KDG and a few years earlier had attended an afternoon in both the Officers’ and WOs’ & Sgts’ Messes to tell us all about his time in the KDG.
The affiliation with NCFC is something we as a Regiment look
to maintain, as it not only keeps us in the public eye, but also gives soldiers a well-earned opportunity to go to these key events.
