REGIONAL OFFICE SOUTH WEST
THE DCLI, SCLI, LI AND RIFLES ASSOCIATION CORNWALL
With a new President at our helm Colonel (Retired) Tom French OBE and the renaming of our branch to The DCLI, SCLI, LI & Rifles Association Cornwall, the year got off to a great start with the AGM and quarterly meeting, followed by lunch at The Victoria Inn, Roche.
A very busy year started in April with the Paardeberg Dinner at the Kilbirnie Hotel, Newquay where Mrs Catherine Willis and Mr Richard White were guests of honour and presented with a framed photograph of their late father Maj Hugo White MBE. The Lostwithiel (Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry (DCLI)) Town Band entertained during the dinner and a disco followed. The dinner was pre- ceded the night before, with an informal dinner at The Smugglers Inn at Cubert with many of our members taking advantage of the out of season hotel rates.
May saw the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, which was cele- brated in style by several members of our association who gathered at the Victoria Inn, Roche to watch the historic event on a large screen. Traditional tea and cake was served on arrival followed by an excellent buffet lunch. The conservatory was decorated with a Union Flag, several of our Standards and the obligatory bunting. Vintage Port was supplied by Mr Colin Vague to toast the new King and Queen.
The Armed Forces Day Flag Relay started at The Keep in Bodmin on Tuesday 25 April, when Bodmin’s Town Mayor Councillor Phil Cooper, conveyed the flag through the town’s streets ahead of The National Armed Forces Day in Falmouth, Cornwall at the end of June 2023. The Flag was delivered to Bodmin Keep - Cornwall’s Army Museum where staff, volunteers, veterans and community
