wakeboarding. Equally with a Joint Services Adventure Training Wing on site, we have exploited numerous vacancies for Riflemen to conduct AT, including parachuting, mountain-biking and diving. We are on track to win the British Forces Cyprus Sports trophy, have had individuals representing the Infantry at Rugby, and have just sent back teams for Alpine and Nordic skiing. We also have a number of individuals competing in the Infantry Cycling, have run our own triathlon camp, and our two elite sportsmen continue to progress in Bobsleigh and Judo. The 1 RIFLES Warhammer team will also compete again in Ex RHINO HAMMER, and our Cyber team have just won the opportunity to compete in Singapore next Spring.
REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION, CADET ACTIVITY AND FAMILIES
Before departing Chepstow, 1 RIFLES continued its strong connection with the South-West, providing the Moor Support Group for Ex WYVERN TOR 23, the mil- itary delivery of the Ten Tors challenge across Dartmoor. Additionally, 1 RIFLES supported training for Bristol University Officer Training Corps (UOTC), Wales UOTC’sDeployment Exercise, and Sherborne, Canford and Eton Combined Cadet Forces’ Summer Training Camps. On a sad note, the Battalion also had significant engagement with our community as a result of the sad deaths in Road Traffic incidents of Rfn Whiting in January 2023, and Cpl Birnie in July 2023. They are greatly missed.
On moving to Cyprus there has been great demand from the local Dhekelia Station community, and our Welfare team has been extremely busy putting on events for families and Riflemen. We have also provided support to the Royal British Legion and SSAFA, and Buglers were prominent throughout, notably on Remembrance Day.
