THE SECOND BATTALION THE RIFLES – ANNUAL REPORT 2023
I am honoured to write to you as the battalion’s time in Hampshire on Operation INTERFLEX nears its conclusion. Your battalion has continued to perform to the highest standards, maintaining its worthy reputation for professional excellence.
The battalion was also honoured to host you at Longmoor Camp in August, a visit that hopefully gave you a greater understanding of the part that your bat- talion is playing in the UK’s support to Ukraine. The Royal Colonel’s visit pro- vides Riflemen with meaningful recognition for their service, especially during extended periods away from loved ones. This acknowledgement boosts morale, reinforcing the strong cohesion within the battalion and highlighting the impor- tance of feeling appreciated in sustaining their dedication.
OPERATIONS AND TRAINING
The battalion arrived into 2023 ready for a new year after a period of well-earned leave following the previous year’s deployment as the ‘Agile Task Force’ on Op CABRIT. With plans afoot to get after much of what was missed in 2022, the year has since been marked by a variety of challenge and reward in equal measure, that has once again culminated with the battalion delivering against the Army’s main effort.
