whilst serving with the Cheshire Regiment. He was also an Old Laxtonian and was an iron foundry worker in Thrapston when the war started. Leslie had served in the army since 1941, mostly overseas, and was on his way
to Italy to be demobilised when the accident happened. He is buried in Algiers and was aged 26. He is commemorated on the Oundle War Memorial and also on the Thrapston War Memorial in St James’ Church.
They were just three of many who died in the service of their country outside of combat, which perhaps makes their stories more poignant at this time of Remembrance.
