Inter-Coy Boxing Champions CSgt B UMNEY, CQMS
Boxing is not a sport which many men willingly enter into, however when the Coy asked for volunteers in July of this year for the inter-company boxing team, 12 warriors stepped up to put their bodies, pride
and reputations on the line to represent the Company.
On July 18th, the team formed up in the gym. It was comprised of 12 fighters along with 3 coaches, Cpl McDermott, Pte Froud and CSgt Umney. The 12 boxers were all eager to start training; I think it’s fair to say that the training the boxers were about to undertake was not as easy as they first thought. The fitness levels required to box are on a whole different level to the day to day fitness they were used to.
The OC, Maj Agnew and CSM, WO2 Zecca, and I, CSgt Umney wanted to dominate the finals night, and to do that
it takes the entire Company from the
top down to support the team, which is exactly what they did. The Boxing team over the next 2 months showed total professionalism, determination and drive
as they were pushed to their physical and mental limits; training 3 times a day; giving up their weekends to train; coming back off summer leave a week before the rest of the Battalion to make sure they would be fully prepared. All of this in the end paid off, as come the end of the preliminaries, we had 8 boxers in the finals.
Unfortunately, due to our superior numbers, Pte Lamb and Pte Smith, both of B (Malta) Company had to fight each other in the preliminaries, which is never easy for the boxers or coaches. They had both over the last 2 months put their heart and souls into getting to the finals night.
Victorious B (Malta) Coy Boxing team 2016
Ultimately, the team performed to an exceptional level on finals night with top class boxing throughout. It is with a great sense of pride that B (Malta) Coy were the eventual winners of the Inter-Company Boxing for 2016. The team should be hugely proud of their achievements.
to Poland. It was a great trip consisting of Mountain Biking, Kayaking & Hiking.
Over September and October, 40 people, attended the Foundation Freefall course
at Netheravon. A great opportunity for
the soldiers to really test their nerve, by throwing themselves out of a perfectly good plane, with nothing more than a glorified bed sheet to slow them down!!
This December the Coy is due to deploy on Ex FROSTED BAYONET 16 in Tignes, France. An Alpine Skiing expedition aiming to deliver Ski Foundation 1 to 24 members of the company, this will then be built on by Ex FROSTED BAYONET 17, which
will deploy in February 2017 to offer the opportunity for those in the Coy to develop what they have learnt.
Adventurous Training Lt T J Yaxley, OC 4 Pl
In an ever busy Army, Adventurous Training provides a break from the norm, in order
to provide an opportunity to test soldiers both physically and mentally. It takes them out of their comfort zone, challenging them to overcome their fears in a safe, but yet testing, environment.
Over the Last year, B (Malta) Company have taken part in a wide range of activities from Nordic Skiing in the Bavarian Alps to Scuba-Diving in the Irish Channel. This has been a great opportunity to for the company to undertake a real variety of activities.
In February, Lt Price took a team of 9 to Bavaria for some Nordic skiing, most did not quite contemplate what this consisted of, getting it a little confused with its Alpine Cousin!! However, a great opportunity for all

and, after 5 long days of cross country, they had earned the right to use the ski lifts and enjoyed a few days of Alpine skiing.
In July, Lt Sones’ multi activity week was a great opportunity for the Company to come together, having been recently spread over the Battle Group for the deployment
Nordic skiing
