Major J Moynihan OC HQ Coy
My first year in post as Officer Commanding Headquarter Company has gone extremely fast, the weeks are just flying by! Since December 2015 I have continued to take on additional tasks such as Battle Group Logistics Officer (BGLO), OC PRI and OIC Boxing to name a few. Stepping into the shoes as a BGLO has not been easy, it has been a steep learning curve but one that I am now thoroughly enjoying.
I have been proud and humbled
to have worked alongside all the Headquarter Company Departments this year, they have all done the Regiment proud. When the Battalion have stood down for the main leave periods such as Christmas and Easter,
very often it is the case
where the majority of
the HQ Departments will
still have to be in work.
When the remainder
of the Battalion are
on leave and tumble
weed is rolling around
camp if you listen very carefully you may hear the sound of a spanner turning or the wheels of a driver on a detail. All that said the Department Heads must manage their departments leave accordingly, reducing the amount of leave carried forward to the next year.
The highlights for me this year was knowing that HQ Coy did not come last
in the Earl of Chester competition, and even more surprisingly we came second
in the Inter Company boxing event. Who said HQ Coy are too old to go the distance

with a young spring chicken running frantically around the ring for six minutes
at a time. All my boxers did strike hard and stood firm that night, that’s for sure. Well done to LCpl
Winstanley, Cpl Mottram, Pte Burnage, Cpl Neale and Cfn Whyte.
Regular deployments on various VJTF exercises to Spain and also Poland, have taken pole position this year. I still haven’t worked out how I am out of
pocket every time I put my claims onto JPA!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank a couple of my soldiers, in particular: LCpl Hyland for all his hard work in getting
the old and bold fit again within HQ Coy, your patience has paid off. CSgt Williams HQ Coy CQMS who did an outstanding job as my CQMS and was rightfully rewarded with a posting to 4 MERCIAN as a PSI within HQ Coy as the Javelin SPSI.
HQ Coy SNCOs have also excelled this year, and I am pleased to point out that
HQ Coy did extremely well during the recent CSgt/SSgt grading board. This just goes to show that their hard work is noticed by all members of the grading board.
HQ Coy are now fully focused in supporting the bayonet companies when
they all deploy next year, some of HQ Coy will deploy with them but the majority of us will provide manpower for the Rear Operations Group (ROG).
