2 Platoon, A (Grenadier) Company
It was another busy and challenging year for A (Grenadier) Company and 2 Platoon have risen to the challenge in true Grenadier spirit. A Company have
deployed on a range
of different short-term
exercise and postings
from Temporary
Directing Staff in BATUS
Canada to the forecourt
of Buckingham Palace
as we formed the
Public Duties Company
partnered with
C Company.
This year has seen a complete change within the Platoon and Company HQ’s, and whilst the pace of life within the Company has been fast and demanding, 2 Platoon have not let their standards slip completing task after task to the highest of standards; as demonstrated by our performance
on Public Duties. Grenadiers served as
Her Majesty’s Guard at Buckingham Palace, St. James Palace, The Tower
of London and Windsor Castle over the summer and educated the Foot Guards in professionalism and what being a Mercian soldier is all about.
We have seen the implementation of
the Battle Craft Syllabus spread across
the Battalion as the CO’s main priority, A (Grenadier) Company have embraced Battle Craft Syllabus (BCS) by driving mission command down to each of the Platoons JNCO’s to teach basic field craft lessons, improving our key basic skills as Infantry soldiers.
The latter part of the year has seen
A Company prepare for Op TEMPERER. This has required tremendous levels of commitment and professionalism as
2 Platoon were held at 12 hours notice to
move over the festive period. Towards the end of the year we also received a Warning Order for a possible deployment on Op
CABRIT attached to the Kings Royal Hussars battle-group in 2019, an exciting and fascinating opportunity to complete on operational tour
with a completely different undertaking than our most recent service in Afghanistan. Subsequently, 2 Platoon
have been training hard to prepare for pre-deployment training in the form of Ex PRAIRIE STORM 1 in BATUS and continuing with exercises in the UK.
‘Towards the end of the
Dismounted training, Castlemartin Ranges
It is an exciting time for 2 Pl and Grenadier Company. With an Op tour on the horizon, the soldiers are sharpening their wits and preparing to represent the Regiment on the international stage. We
go into the New Year with a fresh drive and energy, relishing the opportunity to conduct relevant, exciting, overseas training.
