TANZANIA
International Girlguiding
As a member of 1st Thrapston
Guides I attended a selection
weekend, back in April 2024, to
join Girlguiding Midlands on an
international experience. I was very
fortunate to be one of the 18 guides,
rangers and young leaders to be
selected to travel to Tanzania in the
summer of 2025.
I, along with the other selected
guides, rangers and young leaders
from the 11 different counties of the
Midland’s region will be volunteering
in a local school with the support of
Project Abroad. We will be working
with preschool children to do
activities they wouldn’t otherwise
have the chance to do at school. This
could include arts and crafts, singing
songs and sports. As well as this, we will be
helping with a project around the school site
where we will be helping to paint and decorate
the classrooms.
I will be going for a total of 16 days, as well
as volunteering in the school we will also have
the opportunity to have Swahili lessons, take
cooking classes, try dance classes and go on a
safari in our free time.
This is an incredible opportunity and will
allow me to represent Girlguiding, gain new
skills and learn about other cultures. This
experience will also show me how
much of an impact Girlguiding has
on other young girls lives around the
world.
For me to be able to go I must raise
£3200 but raising this amount is a
huge challenge for me.
This cost will cover briefing
weekends, travel, accommodation
and in-country costs. I have been
fundraising since I found out I was
selected for this opportunity, through
organising and running a charity
fashion night, car washing and
selling crafts and goodie bags.
Coming up soon I am completing
a sponsored climb at the Pinnacle
Climbing Centre in Northampton.

Country Dancers
Country dancing not only helps you to
keep fit but is very sociable. You make
new friends in a pleasant atmosphere
and also maintains one of our great
traditions. All dances are fully explained.
We meet at St James Church Hall, on the
first and third Wednesdays of the month
