Shallots starting to split
polytunnels at the allotment. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while but never getting round to it. It will be easy to do this every year from now. The long parsnips and long carrots are doing really well. I started these in February which this year has been quite a challenge owing to how cold it was this winter. I’m still keeping them covered at night inside the polytunnel with bubble wrap and it’s the first week in May. Winters seem to be getting longer and longer. The shallots are starting to split nicely and will need thinning down to three.
All we can do is keep on growing and hoping for the best. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to meet up soon.

Well we’re still stuck at home and unable to have any meetings. I tried to organise a zoom meeting for the DA but unfortunately people were unable to facilitate this.
Hough End Police club where we hold
our meetings won’t be open until at least the end of June so we can’t have any actual meetings. I’m hoping to get something organised for the first Tuesday in August as long as the pandemic allows. I don’t know
if I’ll be able to manage a speaker, but I think that as long as we get started with the meetings then that will be something. It will be nice to see everyone again as it has been over a year since we last met.
As for local shows most of them have been cancelled due to the uncertainty that the pandemic is still presenting. Poynton have cancelled their show which they
did quite early on. I think they were being realistic about whether things would be anywhere close to normal by August. As I write this the RHS show at Tatton Park is still on. Personally, I can’t see it happening and we may not be attending anyway, that all depends on volunteers. Currently quite
a large number of them have said that they do not want to attend as there is still a
threat from Covid. It’s a large stand which needs quite a few people to create whilst still looking after people’s welfare. I will email out about the progress on this. Personally, I have continued to grow for Tatton but by not having any meetings I have no idea if others have too. So, we may not have the produce to create the stand anyway.
I’ve finally managed to get my Autopots set up with leeks and onions in one of my
