Oddfellows. In August 1934 the secretary
of the Anchor of Hope Lodge in Catworth was convicted of embezzling over £240 from there and the Sackville Lodge in Thrapston. Amounts varying between 2s and £130 2s 101⁄2d had been misappropriated by him in a failed attempt to keep his printing business in town afloat with no chance of this being recovered. Four months hard labour gave him time to mull over his transgressions. By 1939 he was back at his printing business and when he died in 1948 his estate was valued at £320 3s 6d. I have found no record of the misappropriated funds ever being repaid.
In 1936 the secretaries of the town lodges were: Lord Nelson Lodge, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, W. G. Brown, Market Place.
Royal Oak Lodge, Nottingham Imperial Order of Oddfellows, E. March, Grove Road. The Oddfellows continue to exist nationally
with 121 branches nationwide, the nearest local branch being in Wellingborough.

One article I am working on for 2021 is on tennis in Thrapston, the earliest record for which I have found is 1883. Has anyone information about the earlier days and pictures of early courts? Anything before World War 2 would be appreciated.
