North of Scotland District Association
DA Members’ Meetings:
Our DA membership being widespread and our meetings being on the dark evenings in the late Autumn to early Spring period, in 2023 the committee changed members meetings to weekends in an attempt to encourage better attendances. Our meetings on Sunday afternoons did not improve attendances and so most meetings during the period were cancelled but the few regular members foregathered for the occasional get-together and discussions and decision-making at Dobies Garden Centre restaurant.
We have decided to revert to evening meetings at the Chieftain Hotel, Inverness. Initially, we hope to show some of the NVS Zoom talks and invitations will go out to members and local garden clubs.
NoSDA now has a Facebook site, and we hope that this will encourage greater interest in the NVS and our DA meetings.
Our 2024 DA AGM will be held on 29 January 2025 at the Chieftain Hotel, Inverness.
DA Summer Visit:
On 29 June seven members and a few friends had a very enjoyable tour and lunch at the Inverness Botanic Gardens.
DA Show 2024:
Our 2024 DA Show was hosted by Simpsons Garden Centre in Inverness on
7 September. The schedule was the same as previous years with the special class featuring Romanesco Cauliflower “Navona F1” provided by Medwyn’s of Anglesey. Seven members exhibited and our Scottish Branch Chair Frank Taylor judged the
59 entries. It was again great to see our furthest travelled members, Stuart and Rowena Oakley from the Island of Lewis make the trip down to support the show. Results attached hereto.
Scottish Branch Championships 2024:
Held at Duthie Park, Aberdeen on 31 August and 1 September in conjunction with the 200th Anniversary of the Aberdeen RHS and honoured with a visit
by His Majesty King Charles.
Hoss Martin, Bruce Begg, and Charles
