SNIPER PLATOON
Having had a successful exercise in BATUS, there were to be big changes within Sniper Platoon in order to prepare for the up and coming Op HERRICK 19 deployment. The Platoon was scaled down and some of the snipers were embedded back within the Rifle companies.
The first tasking
post Batus was the
running of 7th Armoured
Brigade’s Sniper Cadre
with 4 SCOTS. This
was completed in two
phases, the first phase
was the skill at arms
phase which included
live firing that qualified
the snipers to have the ability to use their weapon system and were designated the L115 A3, more commonly known as 338.
The first tasking post Batus was the running of 7th Armoured Brigade’s Sniper Cadre with 4 SCOTS.
Then after a much deserved Christmas break the second phase began, which was the fieldcraft phase, this qualified the snipers in the art of sniping. The skills taught were observation, navigation,
