their birthday with a card and flowers and those who might be lonely or are considered in need are sent flowers or a gift at Christmas. Branches of the Association throughout the United Kingdom are supported by the Headquarters. An Association magazine, ‘The Gazette’, is published twice a year and distributed to all members.
Grant making policies and how these contributed to the achievement of the Charity’s aims and objectives during the year
The Trustees have an agreed procedure for making grants to relieve financial hardship and distress which is considered on a case by case basis. As requests for grants are often urgently required, the Trustees have authorised the General Secretary to consider and make grants for such purposes up to the sum of £1,000 but remain accountable. Liaison with other service charities such as the Army Benevolent Fund and the Officer’s Association is undertaken and the Army Benevolent Fund and SSAFA continue to provide advice to the Association. Guidelines are also followed in the case of applications for adventurous training grants and personnel on operations are supported as required.
The degree to which the achievements and performance during the year have benefited wider society
The relief of hardship is central to the aims of the QARANC Association. Although the majority of beneficiaries served in the QARANC or its antecedent QAIMNS, their families often also benefit by the relief provided. In addition, the relief provided often ensures that public funds can be directed to those without access to service charity funds. An example of this would be the provision of aids to enable an individual to stay in their own home for which social service access may mean a long wait. Working with other service charities, substantial benefits can be provided,
The benefits enjoyed by serving members of the Corps promote the efficiency of the Armed Forces of the Crown by recognising their commitment and excellence.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE – FINANCIAL REVIEW
The Trustees consider the financial performance by the Charity during the period to have been satisfactory. Since there is an increase in age and potentially need, and a reduction in the number of donors and beneficiaries, the Trustees routinely invest the excess income over costs to provide adequate funds for the future. There is a Financial Reserves Policy.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the accounts in accordance with applicable law and regulations and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Charity for that period. In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are required to:
• Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
• Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP. • Make judgements and accounting estimates that are
reasonable and prudent.
• Prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it
is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
