On Wednesday afternoon, 5th June 2019 1-3pm, the Early Years pupils
of Hempland School (next to the allotments) came to plant their sunflowers and other plants that they have been growing.
We had visited their school just before Easter and during that visit we had transformed their raised beds and introduced the 4 & 5-year olds to sowing seeds and how to help them grow. This time, they brought their tended young plants (including their sunflowers) to us in our newly-created community area ‘Hempland Haven’, as detailed in the previous edition of this magazine. They then had a tour of the allotments and wildlife area and will hopefully now go home and tell their families about it. So many people just don’t seem to know we are here and advertising through the school can instantly access over 400 families within
the community. Our second group came and did the same on Wednesday 12th June 2019 1-3pm. In total we introduced allotmenteering to 60
early years pupils and their teachers, assistants and hopefully their families.

To continue this relationship, the newly created Early Years sunflower exhibition had centre stage at our Summer Fair on Sunday 14th July.
