Purbeck Branch
The Branch has held all its bi-monthly
meetings this year.
On 3rd February 2024 the Branch held a
Social, where the usual few rounds of bingo
were played and the annual draw took place,
when 41 members and guests attended. This
was followed in the middle of May by the
annual Reunion attended by a number of the
Branch.
In June a group of members of the Branch
were able to go to Normandy on 24th June
to 28th June where they visited the D Day
Beaches area, commemorating the 80th
Anniversary landings, and the new Memorial.
On the first weekend in November the
Branch Dinner/Carvery was held at the Clay
Pipe Inn, Holton Heath, which was enjoyed
by a good attendance of 34 members and
guests; then on Sunday 10th November the
Remembrance Day Service at Sandford
Memorial followed by a greatly appreciated
buffet lunch at the Clay Pipe Inn at Holton
Heath by 34 members and their guests.
The Branch members also attended various
Museum Coffee Mornings organised by our
member Mike Jarrett. Members also attended
the monthly “Reading of Names”, of past Dorset
soldiers at Sherborne Abbey, including the
20th of September reading of those who were
at Arnhem as members of the 1st, 3rd and 5th
Dorsets.
Branch members and the Branch Standard
bearers have also attended a number of
funerals of other Branch’s member’s.
On a good note, to finish the report, we had
three new members join the Branch this year –
Will Hunt, Gary Kellaway and Phil Read.
