Outreach Clinic
Life on Op Gritrock
Not going to lie, out there we had a very nice life. The accommodation was quite reasonable, no group showers and actual beds, although Pte Bryan may have lucked out with a squeaky one, but we both lucked in with our roommates. The chefs did an impressive job with the food, one can’t complain when there are pancakes and Nutella for breakfast almost every morning and a cheeky lobster for dinner every now and then. The camp itself was very small, I’d say no more than 400m in diameter, but with lots of up hill, probably a bene t to HQ as you only took on the walk there if you absolutely had to.
Our camp consisted mainly of Role 1, Role 2, LSD, Force Protection and PDHQ personnel so it was quite busy for a small camp but you knew everyone, so it was great! We had a fantastic Wi-Fi facility on camp, I feel this was a really bene cial and
it made a huge difference being able to call/ facetime/skype family and friends back home. It made what could have been a really miserable time a more enjoyable one.
The people we worked with as part of role one were brilliant, really keen and genuinely nice people. The members of the Irish defence force were pure comedy, there was no reason to have a bad morale day when
