Northamptonshire Falls
Prevention Programme
The Get Up & Go (GU&G) initiative is part of a comprehensive county-wide falls prevention programme, providing strength and balance exercise classes for older adults, people at
risk of falling, or those who have previously experienced falls.
Run by the local charity Northamptonshire Sport, the programme is adding more classes in the northern part of the county, with new classes now available in Oundle and additional locations being added each month.
Each class is led by a qualified instructor and incorporates OTAGO exercises, specifically designed for older adults. This proven programme has been shown to reduce falls and related injuries, while also offering participants significant physical and mental benefits, including improved mood, stamina, and independence.
Katy Downing, Programme Lead for Get
Up & Go, expressed enthusiasm for the programme’s growth: “The programme is gaining in popularity. Adding new classes and expanding further in North Northants will help
us reach more people. Ultimately, it’s all about preventing falls and supporting older people to be more mobile and live fulfilling lives in their later years.
GU&G classes are welcoming and offer a positive atmosphere for all participants. If you or someone you know might benefit from this programme, please get in touch.”
