   4 RANGER
  G COMPANY
ON CONTINGENCY
G Company has spent most of the
year so far on the contingency cycle. This has afforded the Company the opportunity to re-cock following a busy operational cycle in 2021. Considering the long periods the Company has spent away from their families, it was crucial that a sustainable battle rhythm be implemented. By and large the Company has been successful in this, and all have welcomed the change in tempo.
Nonetheless, the Company has still done much to support the Battalion and wider Brigade. Amongst other commitments, our Rangers have deployed on Ex APOLLO’S SABRE, operations in the UK and have supported the Ranger Assessment Cadres as observer/mentors. In addition, many of our Rangers have taken the opportunity
to complete key career courses over the period. In between these commitments, time has been set aside for more recreational activities and team bonding events. Chiefly among these was the
adventurous training (AT) trip to Capel Curig, North Wales. The week-long package, involving a combination of mountain biking, mountaineering and rock climbing and was the Company’s first AT since the establishment of The Ranger Regiment which was well received by all.
Additionally, some of our Rangers were fortunate enough to deploy on Exercise SNOW STEEZ, a 3-week Army-wide snowboarding competition that takes complete novices and develops them
to the point that they are racing at over 40mph by the end. The team often had to learn the hard way, frequently returning to their accommodation covered in bruises! However, their persistence paid off and they ranked highly in the results.
G Company has had to say farewell
to some key personalities – they will be missed, both for their experience but
so too for their welcoming, affable, and hardworking characters. We eagerly welcome all new Rangers to the Company
and look forward to working with them. Amidst the change in personalities, the G Company that will finish the contingency cycle will look rather different from
the one that started it. However, the Company’s character and approach will stay the same; all Rangers look forward to the challenges that await us on the coming training and operational cycles. Sgt Vishal Gurung
